History of Model Town

The inception of Model Town can be traced back to 1921, prior to the formation of Pakistan. On 27th February 1921, under the leadership of Rai Bahadur Ganga Ram, around 200 individuals gathered at Lahore’s Town Hall to establish a co-operative housing society initially named ‘Garden Town.’

After the partition in 1947, the area was designated as evacuee property, and in 1960, it was officially registered as the “Co-operative Model Town Society.” Despite these changes, the primary objectives of the project remained unchanged, focusing on creating and maintaining a garden town and constructing houses.
